NEW EXHIBITION SHOWCASES THREE DECADES OF TOKAJ ARCHITECTURE

An architectural exhibition was opened by local winemaker Zoltán Demeter at the theatre of Tokaj town on 17th November. Compiled under the aegis of the national Héttorony Fesztivál, the exhibition showcases images of the works of architect Ferenc Salamin and his disciples, who played a key role, over the past thirty years, to maintain the architectural integrity of the region by applying an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, approach to design and use of materials. As a result, the majority of listed buildings renewed in the past three decades retain their original character, and most newly-built wineries and other facilities neatly blend into Tokaj's UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape.

The Héttorony Fesztivál [Seven Steeples Festival in EN] was launched in 2002 to celebrate the work of life of renowned Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz, as well as all buildings and structures designed in the spirit of 'organic architecture', the school he created. The Festival features a series of events, lectures and exhibitions at several locations in Hungary and neighbouring countries.
