ORGANIC PEST CONTROL CONFERENCE IN SZIRMAY-WALDBOTT HOUSE

0

The once stately home of the Szirmay and Waldbott families was the venue of a conference titled 'Pest Control Revisited' on 2nd August in the village of Tolcsva. Organisers and supporters of the event included the Tokaj Wine Region's Research Institute for Viticulture and Oenology, locally based winery Oremus and national family-owned wineries' advocacy organisation Vindependent, whose president and owner of Pendits Cellar Márta Wille-Baumkauff gave one of the opening speeches. The subsequent scientific topics ranged from controlling the American grapevine leafhopper to cover cropping and organic certification.

Partly renovated to its former glory, the Szirmay-Waldbott House was formally opened in early May as a museum that not only features exhibitions about the history of the two aristocratic families that used to be the main owners of the property for centuries, but also a great café and a conference room
