Opened on 28th July, the Crescendo Summer Institute drew to an end with the usual two gala concerts in Tokaj town yesterday. Just like last year, the 2016 programme did include something wine-related, which was this time a reception for the Institute's teachers in Tokaj-Hétszőlő's Rákóczi Cellar in the main square of the town.
The Crescendo Summer Institute is an international two-week mastercourse, mainly in classical and jazz music, that had taken place since 2003 in Sárospatak before moving to the current venue of Tokaj town from its 11th edition. The Institute provides an opportunity for young people preparing for, or considering, a career in the performing arts to study alongside seasoned professional artists in a Christian environment. This year's courses, including Voice and Opera, Collaborative Piano, Jazz and Improvisation, Choral Conducting and many more, are being taught by excellent soloists and members of leading European and American orchestras at various Tokaj venues such as local schools, the municipal theatre and the cultural and conference centre.
The Summer Institute is one of many projects of Crescendo International, a movement of Christian performing artists, music teachers, instrument makers and students aiming at a professional career in the arts. Crescendo International is based in Switzerland and has a network of some 2000 musicians in 40 countries.
