Brought forward from the usual mid-June slot to early April, the 20th VinAgora Wine Competition saw Tokaj win a total of 17 awards, including three Grand Golds that went to Angyal's 2015 dry Furmint, Pauleczki-Vin's Essencia 2015 and Royal Tokaji's 5 puttonyos Aszú 2013, respectively. Rátka-based Angyal Winery's Furmint was also the winner of the Best Furmint Varietal accolade, as well as the Prix VINOFED, awarded to the highest-scoring wines in the competition. Kiss István's gold medalist 2005 Aszúeszencia brought home the Botrytised Wine Champion Award.

VinAgora is Hungary’s leading VINOFED-endorsed wine competition that attracted a record number of 643 entries from 17 countries, including Australia, Germany, Spain, and even the US this year. One of the key criteria of the VinAgora Awards is that a maximum of one-third of all entries may be awarded.

A lesser-heard name in the list is Préselő, an Erdőbénye-based winery established in 2013 by Zsolt Nagy, whose wines are made by former estate manager of Béres Árpád Zöldi-Kovács. Préselő also runs a stylish guest house in the same village.
