HILLTOP MANSION REBORN AS BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN TOLCSVA

Opened in late May, the Kincsem Kastély Hotel is housed in a former winepress house, built in the mid-19th century by the Austrian Waldbott family that used to own some sixty hectares in the Kincsem Vineyard, outside the village of Tolcsva. Perched at the top of this vineyard, the building had suffered over seventy years of decay and neglect before Hungarian entrepreneur István Matyasovkszy bought and started renovating it in 2014. He also built a tiny winery next door to the mansion, so guests can now taste wines that come straight from the vineyard just below this exquisitely furnished, four-room hotel. The collonaded front balcony offers a view that encompasses virtually two-thirds of the Tokaj region, from Tokaj Hill in the south-west to Sátor Hill in the north-east.
