The thirty trophy winners at this year's International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) were announced yesterday, with Mad Wine taking home one for Tokaj. IWSC is clearly not the most popular international competition with Tokaj producers, as Tokaj's 9 awards came from only three wineries, namely, Barta, Mad Wine (formerly known as Szent Tamás) and Royal Tokaji, all having or seeking a strong presence in English-speaking markets. It is a point of interest that Tokaj's 97-point trophy winner, while being a botrytised wine, was not a traditional Tokaj style, such as Aszú, but a value-priced, unoaked late harvest-style wine.
