Károly Áts brought his newly-built winery into first use during this year's harvest in his home village of Tarcal. Current winemaker of Grand Tokaj and the 2020 winner of the Winemaker of Winemakers Award, Károly started making and releasing wine under his family brand in 2012, while he was still chief winemaker at Royal Tokaji. While he currently vinifies grapes from a mere 3.5 hectares, the new facility's steel vat capacity of 28000 litres, complemented by over a dozen oak barrels, will be more than sufficient to accommodate any future expansion. His old cellar at the southern end of the village remains the location for the ageing of traditional Tokaji styles in the barrel, as well as some age-worthy bottlings. The new winery also includes a tasting room which, when fully furnished, will allow Károly to host seated tastings for up to fifteen visitors.
